How it works
The way from a photo of your receipt to a price history. We explain what happens at each step and what stays with you.
- 1
Scan or add a receipt
The document scanner finds the edges, crops the receipt and straightens it. Take a long receipt in several parts. You can also pick a photo from your gallery or share an e-Arşiv/e-Fatura PDF to Tasarruf.
- 2
First check on the device
Your phone reads the text on the device and checks whether the photo is sharp enough and whether the receipt has a total. If not, it suggests taking the photo again right away.
- 3
Reading on the server
The image and the text read on the device are sent to our server. The server uses an OpenAI AI model to extract the receipt in a fixed structure: store, date, lines, quantities, unit prices, discounts, VAT and total.
- 4
Validation
The AI's answer is never taken as is. We check that the lines add up to the total, that quantity × unit price equals the line amount, that VAT rates and payments are consistent and that every amount really appears on the receipt. If not, it is read once more with a stronger model; fields that still do not add up are flagged for you.
- 5
Review
Only doubtful fields are highlighted. You can correct any field before saving. The raw text of the receipt lines is never changed.
- 6
Product matching
Each line is matched with the same product on your earlier receipts from the same store. Different sizes, brands or conflicting attributes are never matched. When unsure, it asks “Is this the same product?”. A match you confirm keeps working at that store, and you can split or merge products any time.
- 7
Price changes
The moment you save, cards show which products got more or less expensive. Each product page has the first, latest, lowest and highest price, the change and a chart.
Unit prices
Every line's price is converted to a price per kilogram, litre or piece. The shelf unit price and the unit price you actually paid after discounts are kept separately. So when a pack shrinks and the price stays the same, you still see the change.
Personal basket index
The index compares the prices of the same products you buy regularly from month to month. Price changes are combined within each category; categories are weighted by your own share of spending on them over the previous 12 months, and the weights are renewed every year.
- Only products you confirmed or that matched with high confidence are counted.
- The coverage, the share of your spending that is counted, is always shown.
- Below 60 % coverage or with fewer than three matched products it shows “not enough data” instead of a number.
- When you change a match, price history and the index are recalculated.
What Tasarruf is not
Tasarruf is not an accounting app. It does not issue invoices or send e-Fatura or e-Arşiv documents, and it does not keep ledgers, stock or company books. It never draws conclusions about sensitive topics such as health or religion.
